He continued, “As this is a measure for safety above all else, we ask for your generous understanding,” and added, “Seongdong-gu will continue to do its best to maintain a safe community.”
When safety concerns arose about the Prada event held in Seongsu-dong on the 24th, District Mayor Jeong posted a post himself.
The event, which was held under the name of ‘THE SOUND OF PRADA SEOUL’, was planned as a music party for the first time in Seoul by Prada and included a photo wall event. K-pop singers such as Jeon So-mi, TWICE’s Sana, Espa Carina, Kim Tae-ri, NCT’s Jaehyun, Enhyphen, Byun Woo-seok, Crush, Zion.T, SHINee’s Taemin, DAY6’s Wonpil, Kiss Off Life, Kwon Eun-bi, Hyoyeon, and Zero Base One. A large number of actors attended.
The problem was that safety concerns were raised as a large number of people gathered in the narrow commercial alleys of Seongsu-dong. Chaos unfolded around the event venue as even the vehicles passing through it became entangled. Eventually, a car accident occurred.
Because the venue facilities themselves were small, reporters were mixed up and celebrities who arrived at the venue were unable to get out of their vehicles and there was even a skit where they had to wait nearby. In the end, some participants, including Byun Woo-seok, waited in their vehicles and returned home when the event was canceled.
A series of posts were posted on social networking services (SNS) criticizing the organizers’ insufficient progress. Comments such as ‘I was shocked to hear that the bus stop was a photo wall even though it was not a local event’, ‘I even wanted to throw away my Prada bag’, and ‘It was an event that did not take the surrounding environment into consideration at all, so safety issues were expected’ came out.
It was also pointed out that the organizers of this day’s event indiscriminately invited not only celebrities but also numerous influencers, thereby inciting confusion.
Mayor Jeong’s post on this day was followed by reactions such as ‘The event was canceled well’ and ‘It was an appropriate action.’
