Kim Ki-chun and Samyang Ramen Ujipa Dong
Prosecutor General Kim Ki-chun in 1989
It was a time when most ramen products, including Samyang Foods, used beef tallow.
Nongshim, which was a rival to Samyang, used palm oil.
There are 15 grades of beef tallow, and at a time when there was no such thing as industrial beef tallow, the incident started with a letter from Samyang Ramen saying that it used industrial beef tallow.
Even though Samyang Foods used second-grade beef tallow, which is the highest grade, the investigation was exaggerated as if it used substances harmful to the human body.
Samyang Foods is on the verge of bankruptcy.
In 1995, Samyang Foods was found not guilty.
Prosecutor Kang Shin-wook, head of the Special 2nd Department of the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office, who led this case at the time.
In 1991, he worked as a fantastic duo with Kim Ki-chun in the Kang Ki-hoon will-manufacturing case. Served as a Supreme Court Justice from 2000 to 2006.
And after that… Kim Ki-chun worked as a non-executive legal advisor for Nongshim for five years starting in 2008, and started working again in September 2016.
