The San Jose, known to be loaded with the most treasure among the many treasure ships that sank in the Caribbean, was a sailing ship that belonged to the fleet of King Felipe V of Spain (1693-1746).
The San Jose sank during a battle with the British fleet in June 1708, and most of its 600 sailors reportedly lost their lives.
It is estimated that the San Jose was loaded with treasures, including about 200 tons of gold, silver, and emeralds, brought from Bolivia and Peru, which were Spanish colonies at the time.
