Professor Park Il-young of Chungbuk National University said, “Don’t raise the fear of Fukushima and the contaminated water

Professor Park Il-young, a researcher community, said, “Diluted treated water is 1/4 of the effective dose of banana.”

“If you bring treated Fukushima contaminated water, we will dilute it to the discharge concentration and drink it,” said a professor at the College of Pharmacy, who has studied and lectured on radioactive medicine for nearly 30 years

Professor Park, who introduced himself as a lecturer on the characteristics of radioactive drugs and the effects on the human body for nearly 30 years, explained, “The consumptive controversy, which does not help the public sentiment and the national economy, is amplified by subjective views that are far from science.”

Professor Park said, “If tritium is diluted to less than 1,500 becquerels per liter after treating contaminated water, the effective dose I receive is 0000027 mSv millisievert even if I drink 1 liter of this water,” adding, “This is about a quarter of the effective dose 00001 mSv contained in a banana.”

“When intravenously injecting a radioactive drug containing fluorine-18, a radioisotope, into a substance called DOPA to diagnose Parkinson’s disease, the effective dose a patient receives is 925-185 mSv,” he said

Professor Park also said, “Even if you assume 780 TBq, which is a triplet contained in the entire Fukushima contaminated water, there is no problem to drink it for life if it is diluted in seawater in the North Pacific and returned to Korea.”

If other nuclides have been removed through adsorption and filter with ALPS, there is no need to worry about micro solids or floats, he added. “I think the additional effective dose by other nuclides is also insignificant.”
