Colonel Park introduced an anecdote in which he visited Mr. Chae’s grandfather last year and explained the results of the investigation himself, saying, “I can’t stop this fight because I promised my grandfather that I would carry out the results for those responsible for Mr. Chae’s death as a result of the investigation.”
Finally, Colonel Park said, “Since the Republic of Korea is a country with a duty of national defense, the unfair and sad death of Corporal Chae can happen to all my family members and relatives,” adding, “The fight cannot be stopped because it is justice to take responsibility for the truth of the case and the person responsible is the way to prevent a second accident.”
Colonel Park revealed that there was external pressure from the Ministry of National Defense and the presidential office during the investigation into the accident of Corporal Chae, a Marine who died in July last year while searching for missing persons affected by heavy rain
Colonel Park considered Lim Sung-keun’s unreasonable order as the cause of the accident and transferred the results of the incident, which included Lim as a suspect, to the police on August 2 of the same year, but the Ministry of National Defense immediately retrieved the incident records and dismissed Colonel Park from his post
The military prosecution indicted Colonel Park without detention on charges of protest and other charges, saying that former Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop violated the order to hold back the case, which was delivered through Marine Corps Commander Kim Kye-hwan
